Translation :
If you stay and rest for a while
at our fine, small town,
with the wide sea as its fence
and the meandering back-waters that moan,
and shining waves and Thazai trees (Pandanus Tree);
if you park your high, moving chariot,
with its ornaments and lotus-bud shaped handle,
beside the dunes as high as mountains,
to end the loneliness of my friend,
with a leaf-skirt hanging over her loins;
if you should, what harm is there ?
Note: The event occurs at the seashore region (Theme: பாலை). The friend informs the Hero (தலைவன்) to meet the Heroine (தலைவி) at night, if he’s going to come meet her.
Her friend says, If you stop your chariot by the sand dunes as high as mountains (i.e Peope in the village at night won’t be aware of your chariot when you park behind the dune) and the backwaters interspersed with Thazhai trees where fresh waves hit, and rest in our find small town surrounded by ocean as fence. Then you could meet my friend i.e your girlfriend and remove her loneliness. I don’t think there’s harm in that.
